When you’re a kid, having surgery can be pretty scary. However, when your family lacks the ability to provide even basic needs like food and clothing, the surgical experience and recovery can even be harder. 

Did you know that two-thirds of the world’s children lack access to surgical care and that number continues to grow each year? In many low and middle income countries (LMIC) children may wait years to have a surgical procedure that in the United States would be performed almost immediately. This issue puts a huge burden on families, both emotionally and financially.  For many families this means traveling long distances away from their community and support system to receive care. The separation from other family members can cause anxiety and fear and can take a toll on their mental health.

Our goal is to bring a bit of fun and joy for these kids and their families by providing a care backpack to help them get through their post-operative recovery. We know their recovery will be tough, but we want them to know that we care and are rooting for them during their recovery.
